When many Christians hear the phrase “share the gospel,” they immediately picture standing on a stage, preaching to a crowd, or having all the right theological answers. But when you read the book of Acts, you discover something much simpler (and much more encouraging).
The gospel spread because ordinary believers faithfully shared what God had done.
As the book of Acts comes to a close, the apostle Paul’s life reminds us that sharing our faith isn’t about having the perfect words. It’s about faithfully pointing people to Jesus wherever God has placed us.
Whether Paul was speaking before governors, encouraging fellow travelers during a storm, or welcoming visitors while under house arrest, he never stopped talking about Christ. Even imprisonment couldn’t silence the gospel because, as Acts beautifully demonstrates, while Paul was confined, God’s Word never was.
That same mission continues today.
Start With Your Story
One of the most beautiful moments in these final chapters is watching Paul repeatedly tell his testimony. Again and again, he shares how he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus and how his life was completely transformed.
Notice that Paul doesn’t invent a new message for every audience. He simply tells the story of what Christ has done.
The same is true for us.
Sometimes we underestimate the power of our own testimony because it feels ordinary. Maybe you weren’t dramatically rescued from a destructive lifestyle. Maybe your story is one of quietly learning to trust God through anxiety, grief, infertility, illness, or everyday faithfulness.
But every testimony is evidence that Jesus changes lives.
The apostle Peter encourages believers, “Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). That doesn’t mean having every answer. It means being ready to explain why your hope rests in Christ.
Someone in your life may never open a Bible before they first see the gospel lived out through your life. Your story may be the very thing God uses to give another person hope. Paul understood that, which is why he never grew tired of telling what Jesus had done.
Choose Faithfulness Over People’s Approval
Paul also reminds us that sharing the gospel isn’t always comfortable.
Throughout Acts, he faces false accusations, rejection, imprisonment, opposition, and misunderstanding. Yet he remains remarkably calm because his goal was never to gain approval from people. His goal was to be faithful to God.
That’s a timely reminder for us.
We live in a culture where it’s easy to worry about how others might respond if we mention our faith. We fear awkward conversations. We wonder if people will judge us. We don’t want to seem pushy or offend someone.
But Paul echoes a truth he also wrote in Galatians 1:10: “If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Sharing the gospel doesn’t mean forcing conversations or winning arguments. It simply means loving Christ enough that we’re willing to lovingly speak about Him when opportunities arise.
We aren’t responsible for someone’s response. We’re responsible for our obedience.
Look for Everyday Opportunities to Share
One detail that stands out in Acts is how often Paul repeats himself.
He tells his conversion story before crowds. He tells it before governors. He tells it before King Agrippa.
He tells it again and again because every audience is hearing it for the very first time.
Sometimes we feel like we’re saying the same things over and over. Maybe you’ve invited your coworker to church several times. Maybe you’ve prayed with your children every night. Maybe you’ve answered your friend’s questions about faith for months.
Don’t grow discouraged.
Every conversation plants another seed.
Scripture reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:6 that one person plants, another waters, but God gives the growth. We often want immediate results, but God frequently works through slow, faithful conversations over time.
Our job isn’t to produce transformation. Our job is to remain faithful.
Bring Hope Into Everyday Conversations
One of my favorite scenes near the end of Acts takes place during a violent storm at sea.
For fourteen days the passengers drift through terrifying conditions. They haven’t eaten. They’re exhausted and fearful.
What does Paul do? He encourages them, reminds them of God’s promises, and offers hope.
Even in the middle of uncertainty, Paul becomes a source of peace because his confidence rests in Christ rather than his circumstances.
Many of our opportunities to share Jesus happen in moments just like these.
When a friend receives difficult news. When a neighbor loses someone they love. When a coworker feels overwhelmed. When someone asks how you’re finding peace during a difficult season.
Often the gospel is shared most naturally when people are looking for hope.
Sometimes the most powerful witness isn’t a sermon, it’s the quiet confidence that Christ is present in your storm.
Share Jesus Right Where You Are
If anyone had an excuse to stop ministering, it was Paul.
He had been beaten. Shipwrecked. Arrested. Placed under house arrest.
Yet Acts ends with Paul welcoming everyone who came to him and boldly teaching about Jesus from the place where he was confined. His circumstances changed, but his mission never did.
It’s easy to think we’ll share our faith someday.
When life slows down. When we know more Scripture. When we’re less busy. When we’re more confident.
But God doesn’t wait for perfect circumstances before using His people. He simply asks for available hearts.
Wherever you are today, a classroom, an office, a coffee shop, your neighborhood, or around your dinner table, you already have opportunities to reflect Christ.
These ordinary moments become extraordinary when the Holy Spirit works through them.
Remember That You’re Part of God’s Story
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the book of Acts is how it ends. There isn’t a neat conclusion. Instead, Luke leaves us with Paul faithfully preaching the gospel while the story simply… continues.
That’s because the mission didn’t end with Paul. It continues with every believer who chooses to live faithfully today.
The same Holy Spirit who empowered the early church empowers us. The same gospel that transformed lives in Jerusalem continues changing lives around the world. The same God who opened doors for Paul is still opening doors for conversations today. The book of Acts reminds us that we are part of God’s ongoing story.
God continues writing His story through His people.
FAQs About Sharing the Gospel
What if I don’t know enough about the Bible to share the gospel?
You don’t need a seminary degree to tell someone what Jesus has done in your life. Start with your own testimony. Share how Christ has met you, forgiven you, comforted you, or changed you. Continue growing in Scripture, but don’t let fear keep you silent.
What if someone asks a question I can’t answer?
It’s perfectly okay to say, “That’s a great question. I don’t know, but I’d love to look into it with you.” Humility often builds more trust than pretending to have every answer.
How do I bring up faith naturally?
Pray for opportunities rather than forcing conversations. Listen well, care deeply, and be attentive when someone shares a struggle or asks about your hope. Genuine relationships create natural opportunities to talk about Jesus.
What if people reject the message?
Remember that not everyone accepted Paul’s message either. Your responsibility is faithfulness, not results. Trust God with what happens after you’ve planted the seed.
Final Encouragement
If you’ve ever felt intimidated by sharing your faith, take heart. God has never been looking for perfect communicators. He’s always worked through willing people.
Ask Him each morning to give you eyes to see the people around you and courage to love them well. Pray for opportunities to encourage someone, to share your story, or simply to point someone toward Jesus through your words and actions.
You may never know this side of heaven how one conversation, one invitation, one prayer, or one act of kindness becomes the beginning of someone’s journey with Christ.
The book of Acts reminds us that the gospel cannot be stopped. It wasn’t stopped by prison walls, storms, opposition, or persecution, and it won’t be stopped today.
So keep loving. Keep serving. Keep sharing.
And trust that the same God who worked through the early church is still working through you.
