We all have moments when we feel like we just aren’t enough. Maybe it’s a fear of failure, a lack of skill, or even a sense that God couldn’t possibly use someone like you.
And yet, time and time again, the Bible shows us that God doesn’t call the capable, He calls the willing. He doesn’t need our perfection, He works through our weaknesses to reveal His strength.
Take Moses, for example. In Exodus 4, God calls him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses freezes. He’s scared, insecure, and convinced he can’t do it. He says, “I am not eloquent, send someone else.” And yet, God still chooses him. He equips him. He provides backup plans. And He reminds Moses that His presence is enough.
God works in the same way in our lives. Here are 7 ways God uses our weakness to do extraordinary things.
1. God Shows His Power Through Our Limitations
Moses doubted himself, not God. He focused on his slow speech, his inexperience, and his inability to convince the Israelites. But God’s response was simple, “Who has made man’s mouth? Have I not?” (Exodus 4:11).
Our weaknesses are the canvas for God’s power. When we try to rely on ourselves, we hit limits. But when we rely on God, His strength is made perfect in our insufficiency. What feels like a flaw to you can become the very way God demonstrates His glory.
Stop seeing your weakness as a liability. See it as a place for God to show up.
2. Weakness Keeps Us Humble
Even after God promised to be with Moses, he still resisted. He asked God to send someone else, doubting that he was capable. And God, in His patience, allowed Aaron to come alongside him. Moses remained imperfect, yet he was still able to lead the Israelites.
Paul had a similar experience with his “thorn in the flesh” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Rather than being a setback, it became a source of humility and dependence. He learned that God’s power is most evident when we recognize our own inadequacy.
Weakness prevents pride and keeps us dependent on God, which is exactly what He wants.
3. Weakness Reveals the Depth of God’s Patience
God doesn’t call us and then leave us to figure it out on our own. When Moses protested that he couldn’t speak well, God reassured him, “I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say” (Exodus 4:12).
Even when we feel unready or unqualified, God is patient. He equips us slowly, walking with us through each stage of growth. The journey isn’t instant, transformation takes time, but God never abandons us in our fear or inadequacy.
God’s patience is a gift. Let’s allow Him to guide your growth instead of rushing the process.
4. Weakness Push Us to Rely on God, Not Our Ability
Moses kept looking at himself, saying, “I’m not enough, I can’t do this.” But God’s message was clear, His presence matters more than ability. Moses wasn’t called to succeed in his own strength, he was called to let God work through him.
When we focus on our inadequacies, we miss the bigger picture. God wants to do amazing things through us, things we could never do on our own. Our job is simple: show up, trust Him, and obey.
God’s presence trumps human skill. If God is with you, you are never alone in your calling.
5. Weakness Prepares Us for Greater Responsibility
God doesn’t remove all weaknesses immediately because He wants us to remain teachable. Moses didn’t wake up one day with perfect eloquence or confidence. Paul didn’t suddenly lose his thorn.
Weakness shapes character. It forms patience, humility, and trust. God uses our current limitations as preparation for the bigger things ahead. By learning to lean on Him now, we’re ready for future assignments that require reliance on His strength rather than our own.
Don’t wish away your weaknesses; they are shaping you for what’s next.
6. Weakness Provides Opportunities for God to Work Miracles
God gave Moses three signs to perform in front of the Israelites: the rod turning into a serpent, the leprous hand, and water from the Nile turning to blood. These signs were designed to show God’s power, not Moses’.
When we step into our weaknesses, God can perform miracles in ways that wouldn’t be possible if we relied on ourselves.
Our “not enough” becomes the perfect stage for His “more than enough.”
7. Weakness Builds Faith and Obedience
Moses’ journey wasn’t just about leading Israel, it was about learning to trust God in every step. Even with the signs, the presence of Aaron, and God’s promises, Moses still wrestled with fear and doubt. But God’s consistent guidance allowed him to grow into a strong, obedient leader.
Faith grows in the soil of weakness. When we act despite our fears and inadequacies, we learn to trust God’s timing, rely on His presence, and walk in obedience, even when outcomes are uncertain.
Weakness is a training ground for faith. Step forward, and God will meet you there.
Final Encouragement
Our world teaches us that strength, skill, and confidence are the keys to success. God teaches us something different. Reliance, humility, and trust are stronger than natural ability. He doesn’t need you to be perfect, He needs you to be willing.
Like Moses, we may feel unqualified. Like Paul, we may carry “thorns” that seem inconvenient or painful. But in every weakness, God sees opportunity. He sees a vessel He can use. He sees a heart He can shape. And His presence is always enough to fill what we lack.
So today, don’t run from your weaknesses. Embrace them. Invite God to work in them. Let your fear, inadequacy, and limitations become the very things through which God demonstrates His power.
Because when you are weak, that’s when God is strongest.
